Mark B The 1st 2 acts really hold your attention the character building and story work well. The 3rd act really lost steam for me. Rated 3/5 Stars • Rated 3 out of 5 stars 04/05/24 Full Review Hailey S Everything about this movie was great the casting was perfect and the story line was really made well 10/10 movie definitely worth watching! Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/21/24 Full Review May C My absolute favorite horror movie. Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/27/23 Full Review Jake M This movie breathed new life into two pretty stale genres- Werewolf movies, and Teen/ Coming of age stories. Well acted and well written, it moves along at a pace that keeps your interest, with an ending that actually makes you want to see what happens next. Overall, a great horror flick! Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/09/23 Full Review Azizkhuja T As a passionate fan of the horror genre, "Ginger Snaps" holds a special place in my heart, and it's not hard to see why. This 2000 gem directed by John Fawcett offers a unique blend of teenage angst, sisterly bonds, and the supernatural, creating an unforgettable werewolf tale that stands out in the horror landscape. One of the film's greatest strengths lies in its fresh take on the werewolf mythos. The storyline follows the Fitzgerald sisters, Ginger (Katharine Isabelle) and Brigitte (Emily Perkins), as they navigate the challenges of adolescence. When Ginger is bitten by a werewolf, the film takes a thrilling turn, exploring the physical and emotional transformations that follow. The narrative not only captures the essence of lycanthropy but also cleverly uses it as a metaphor for the challenges of growing up.The performances of the lead actresses are nothing short of stellar. Katharine Isabelle brings a ferocity to Ginger's character that is both captivating and unnerving, while Emily Perkins portrays Brigitte's vulnerability and strength with remarkable nuance. The chemistry between the sisters forms the emotional core of the film, making their journey all the more compelling. What sets "Ginger Snaps" apart is its ability to balance horror and dark humor. The film doesn't shy away from the visceral aspects of werewolf transformation, yet it infuses moments of black comedy that provide much-needed relief. The result is a film that keeps you on the edge of your seat while occasionally making you chuckle at the sheer audacity of its premise. The cinematography deserves applause for capturing the eerie ambiance of the suburban setting and the eerie transformations. Practical effects are used to great effect, giving the werewolf sequences a visceral and authentic feel. The film's soundtrack complements the visuals, heightening the tension and emotion in key scenes. As a fan, "Ginger Snaps" resonates with me not only for its horror elements but also for its exploration of female relationships and the tumultuous journey through adolescence. It's a horror film with substance, offering a fresh perspective that transcends the typical genre tropes. In conclusion, "Ginger Snaps" is a howling success in the werewolf subgenre, delivering a potent mix of horror, humor, and heartfelt storytelling. For those who appreciate a unique twist on the supernatural, this film is a must-watch. It has stood the test of time and remains a cult classic for horror enthusiasts like myself. Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/07/23 Full Review Patrick C I'm surprised how much I enjoyed it in 2023 as a 31 year old man. The suicide bits maybe haven't aged well, but the whole thing feels very 2000 in a good way. The effects are mostly incredible and it's much gorier than I expected. My one complaint is that it made me like Jennifer's Body a little less. It's just a worse version of this IMO. The story is practically identical. I also couldn't help thinking about The Craft. This is much better than The Craft too, though I can appreciate them both. Rated 4.5/5 Stars • Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 11/21/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
