What is Churro Toffee?

If you have ever been to the Disneyland Resort (AKA the Happiest Place on Earth) then you may recognize this delicious treat from their bakeries! This churro toffee is the perfect treat and made into individual portions so that everyone can have their own little square of heaven. I love a good copycat recipe and trust me when I say that this is the BEST toffee that you will ever have!! You will be hooked after one taste. It’s love at first bite!

The toffee itself is absolute perfection. It’s golden in color and breaks apart the second that you bit into it. Filled with a rich and creamy flavor, it really makes this treat the best of the best. The toffee is then topped with a layer of melted white chocolate that sets and holds that delicious surprise of toffee inside. To top it off, as if it couldn’t get any better, you sprinkle on a generous amount of cinnamon sugar, and that’s where that classic churro taste comes in. This toffee is SO good, and I just know that it will become your favorite!

Ingredients in this Churro Toffee Recipe

You might be surprised to find out how few ingredients you need to make this delicious treat! Just make sure that you have a good candy thermometer on hand because that is a must for this toffee. Check out the recipe card at the bottom of the post for exact measurements.

  • Salt: The salt will enhance all of the flavors in the toffee.
  • Vanilla Extract: Add a splash of vanilla flavoring to the toffee.

  • Sugar: This will be mixed to sweeten up your cinnamon.
  • Ground Cinnamon: Mix this with the sugar for the perfect topping!

How to Make Copycat Disneyland Churro Toffee

Get ready to whipe up this quick and delicious treat in no time! You will make this and all of your family and friends will be begging for more! It’s a sweet treat that you CANNOT miss.

Make Toffee

  1. Prep: Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
  2. Heat toffee ingredients: Add the butter, sugar, vanilla, and salt to a 3-quart heavy-bottomed saucepan. Heat over medium-low heat until the butter and sugar have melted together, stirring constantly.
  3. Boil with candy thermometer: Add a candy thermometer to the pan and continue to cook, stirring constantly. Let the mixture boil until the temperature reads 300°F on the thermometer. This can take 10-15 minutes, but it’s best to go low and slow Turn off the heat immediately and pour the hot toffee onto the prepared baking sheet.
  4. Cool and cut: Let the toffee cool for 5 minutes before using a large kitchen knife (or plastic knife) to cut the soft toffee to cut it into squares. Go over the lines a few times to ensure the toffee doesn’t melt back together. Let it finish cooling completely, you can speed this process up by placing the tray in the fridge for 20-30 minutes.
  5. Break: Once the toffee has cooled, break the squares apart.

Make Topping and Combine

  1. Melt: In a medium bowl, melt the white chocolate wafers according to the directions on the package. In a pie pan or square baking dish, mix the cinnamon with the sugar to make the churro topping.
  2. Add cinnamon sugar mixture: Dip the pieces of toffee in the chocolate one by one, shaking off the excess. You can use tongs for this or clean fingers. Once the excess chocolate has dripped off, place the coated toffee in the cinnamon sugar mixture. Sprinkle more cinnamon sugar over the top until it is well coated. Transfer to a clean piece of parchment.
  3. Let Set: Let the chocolate set up, about 40 minutes or so. Once all the chocolate has set, the churro toffee is ready to be served!

Toffee Tips

Anytime that you are working with a candy thermometer, then you must pay close attention to what your ingredients are doing so that your candy doesn’t burn! Check out these tips to make this toffee turn out great!

  • Prep your ingredients: Have all your ingredients measured out and all your equipment ready to go before you start cooking. Making toffee starts slow and then goes very quickly at the end.
  • Use a candy thermometer: Use a candy thermometer, otherwise you risk over-cooking or under-cooking the toffee.
  • Heavy bottom pan: Use a heavy-bottomed saucepan to make this churro toffee. You want to do this because thinner saucepans won’t heat the candy evenly and the mixture can burn very easily.
  • If the butter separates: Sometimes the butter can separate from the sugar when making toffee. If this starts to happen, lower the heat and whisk the toffee vigorously to bring them back together. Gently raise the heat while continuing to whisk to maintain an emulsified candy.

Can I Use Milk Chocolate Instead?

Yes! Using milk chocolate in this churro toffee will work fine! It will bring an entirely different taste though so if you want the classic churro toffee, just like they serve at Disneyland, then stick to the white chocolate!
